Zululand January 1879; the British Army had just suffered one of its greatest ever defeats at the hands of the Zulu warriors leaving their rear-guard supply store and makeshift hospital at Rorke’s Drift undefended. This small force of 100 soldiers now faced an angry impi of some 4,000 Zulus eager to wash their spears in the blood of their enemy.
At the height of this desperate battle, the exhausted and thirsty soldiers faced drastic action to recover their water supply abandoned outside their defence perimeter, surrounded by an overwhelming number of Zulu warriors!
Inspired initially by the 1960’s classic Michael Caine movie but informed by detailed research and field trips to the African battlefields this graphic novel respectfully tells the story of this terrible struggle, complete with an epilogue chapter following the battle’s aftermath and effect on the defending soldiers and the Zulu children who return to the site looking for their missing warrior fathers.
Also contains a historical article by leading Anglo-Zulu War historian Ian Knight, bonus production pages and contemporary photographs of Rorke’s Drift.
Limited Edition signed print pack also available with an original sketch.
