Rikke Villadsen

Rikke Villadsen’s trajectory that led her to become one of the most interesting contemporary authors was steep and sudden. Ever since she appeared on the scene with her first graphic novel, The Sea (Fantagraphics, 2019), the readers were enthused by her poetic storytelling and pencil drawings. While resembling the poetic essence of other Nordic comics authors, her works have the originality to create a memorable and distinguishable comics universe. This universe became even more distinct with her second book, Cowboy (Fantagraphics, 2020). Symbolism, tattoos, water, skewed dreamlike reality, babies, ghosts, etc., create a world in which feminism mixes with autobiographical inner thoughts and questions.
