Meet the Danish illustrator and cartoonist with a penchant for historical environments.
Who wouldn’t want to read a series about Denmark in the 1400s? Or an album about one of Hans Christian Andersen’s lesser-known stories. You can meet the creator of these comics at Copenhagen Comics – Ingo Milton.
Ingo Milton is a Danish illustrator and cartoonist. He was educated at the Kolding School of Arts and Crafts, where he studied drawing and graphics. For several years, he worked at an advertising agency, primarily with LEGO as a client. In 1980 he co-founded the comic book community Gimle in Copenhagen, and from 1983-86 he worked on the layout of the Valhalla animated movie.
Together with his brother, Freddy Milton, he created the Zenit series. On his own, he has also created the series Skalken Joff and a comic book version of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Shadow. He started with it in 1987 and participated in Ekstrabladet’s comic book competition. The same year, it was published as a continuing story in B.T.
In 1993, this personal and beautifully crafted comic book was published in an album format that emphasized the balanced black and white graphics and the evocative environmental and interior depictions.
The album Skalken Joff is set in 15th century Denmark. The three main characters, Joff, Elena and Sashia, are traveling performers who tour the countryside and perform their puppet shows at town festivals.
