Niels Roland is known for his clean lines and simple layout. He has satirized manners, customs and politics through several series and albums.
You probably know some of them: Danmark besat, for example.
Together with author Morten Hesseldahl and illustrator Henrik Rehr, Niels Roland created this album series, which started in 1990 on the 50th anniversary of the German occupation of Denmark. The series was published in B.T. and produced in collaboration with the publisher Carlsen’s then comics editor, Carsten Søndergaard.
Or how about the many strips in Weekendavisen From 2005 to 2020, Niels Roland was a regular cartoonist, among other things in the science series “Kloge Hoveder”. Let’s also mention Gunnar: A series about Gunnar and his misadventures with work and women’s liberation, created for SID’s Fagbladet and Dana Blues.
Niels Roland is also the author of a number of children’s cartoons, includingThe Key Guardians. Niels has been a member of the Gimle studio in Copenhagen since 1987, and in addition to comics, he works on illustrations for children’s books, educational material, adult language tests and scientific material.
